Many people take the opportunity when they’re backpacking around the world to put something back, and taking part in the Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) programme allows you to do that. This is a programme in which you work on an organic farm for 5 days a week, taking part in various duties, in exchange for food and lodgings, and an opportunity to learn about organic farming.
One of the main problems with WWOOfing though is that some of the duties you may be doing would be classed as manual labour, and most insurance policies refuse to cover you for that. Well, we looked into this, if you take the “Adventure Pack” when you take out our insurance, the policy covers you for WWOOFing including the use of tractors, though may not extend to using heavy machinery or certain power tools. So, as well as covering you on your travels, your volunteer work is covered as well. The Adventure Pack includes 39 other activities including Canyoning, Mountain Biking and Scuba Diving up to 40 metres, so the adventure pack supplement won’t be used just for your farm work anyway!
The True Traveller was originally a travel company, not an insurance company, and although we believe we’ve designed the best value backpacker insurance we possibly can, we understand that the price of insurance does put people off taking it out to start with. Our maxim is, if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel.
